Cabo Blanco:
is widely held
to feature the best left-breaking wave in Peru
It has a fast and short wave that implies a "take off" and one
of the best pipes. This beach is located in the north of Peru.
The waves can reach up to four meters, but
normally they fluctuate between two and three meters. This beach
is ideal between November and December.
Access:
Cabo Blanco lies 153 km
north of the city of Piura.
Bayovar-Nonura:
is
a wave running long and leftwise.
Surfers nicknamed this beach as "El Ferrocarril" (The Train) because
of its size and strength. The waves are left and right and they
measure up to three meters.
The entrance to the place where the wave
is taken requires a very difficult paddle out against strong
currents.
The beach has swells
generally during summer.
Access: Bayóvar lies 105 km (two
hours) southwest of the city of Piura.
Chicama
is
famous for boasting the world's longest wave. It is divided in four
sections:
Each is a wave in itself, with its own character and speed.Surfers say to
surf Chicama, one needs an extra pair of legs.
The waves in its ideal size measure up to two meters and grow
with the currents of the southeast.
Access: Chicama lies 94 km (an
hour-and-a-half) northwest of the city of Trujillo. The cove,
also called Malabrigo, is reached by taking the detour at Paiján,
at Kilometre 614 of the North Pan-American
Highway.

La Herradura -
The classic point of
Lima (the horseshoe) has left waves that in their best days
reach five meters. It is split into three sections, the one
nearest the coast being the most tubular and the most difficult.
It is an oft-visited beach, where on a nice day there will be
100 surfers (a major additional difficulty if one takes into
account each series only brings five waves). Experienced surfers
only.
Access:
Located just minutes
from downtown Lima.
Pico Alto (High
Peak).
The biggest and most
spectacular waves
in Peru. It is a Point Break (with lefts and
rights, despite the fact that rights are a lot more frequent).
It's perfect long waves can measure
up to 10 meters.
Not for
beginners.
This is a very crowded beach
during the summer and is a long paddle out (the wave breaks
1 km out).
Access: Pico Alto lies 43 km south
of the city of Lima down the South Pan-American Highway.

RECOMMENDATION:

Ica -
The
finest right-breaking wave in Peru. Because of its
position,
the island
features the only wave in Peru where right-running, tubular
waves break to the west.
The water is very cold, and strong winds
gust in the afternoons. Its a unique surf spot, where
surfers take to the waves amidst hundreds of sea lions.
Access: The island lies 5 km west
of the Paracas Peninsula. It can only be reached by boat and surfers tend to hire launches at El Chaco.
