Canopy Tour
|
Traverse from tree to tree and platform to platform using
pulleys on horizontal traverse cables, as they sail through the
treetops of the tropical rainforest canopy, and over the trails
far below. Expert guides assist you in this exciting journey
through the different layers of the virgin rain forests. The Original Canopy Tour in San Mateo, on the main road to the
beaches of Jaco and Manuel Antonio, about 1 1/2 hour from San
Jose.
The climate in this area is very warm and usually humid.
This is a tropical transition forest between the dry lowland
forest of the north and the wet rainforest of the south and
therefore rich in bio-diversity. Due to hot climate, clients are
recommended to wear shorts and a t-shirt and to bring a change
of clothing, as they will get sweaty or wet from the rain.
The tour consists of 10 platforms, 7 horizontal traverses and a
rappel. The tour starts on a hill top where the 1st platform is
located. From there you traverse to the 2nd and 3rd platforms in
an "espavel" tree. You will rappel or be belayed down to the
third platform where the journey will continue to the other
platforms. The Canopy Tour follows a small stream and wildlife
sightings are very common in this area. The last traverse goes
to a ground platform at the edge of the valley. The more
adventurous person can try a 21 meter rappel down to the edge of
the stream instead of the final traverse. |
 |
|
There are restroom facilities but no restaurant here. We
recommend you bring insect repellant, water, a camera and
binoculars. The tour lasts 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Tour times: 8am,
10am, 1pm, & 3pm -Daily.

Carara National Park
|
|
The
Carara National Park is located at the geographical midpoint of the
Pacific Coast. Carara Biological Reserve has a transitional climate
because it is located in between the hot dry northwestern region of
Costa Rica and the rainy southwestern region of Costa Rica; therefore,
it contains flora and fauna from both regions. It has year-round wet habitats and several
streams and rivers, making the reserve a green oasis of epiphytes, ferns
and palms. It is home to parrots, parakeets, toucans,
trogons, three species of monkeys, and one of only three viable
populations of the Scarlet Macaws in Central America.
After visiting the reserve, enjoy a relaxed
lunch break and afternoon swim at the beach. Before returning to San Jose in the late
afternoon, you can visit a different sector of the reserve.
