The Arenal Volcano and Monteverde

From the Arenal Observatory, visitors have an impressive view of this "giant which rumbles" and erupts with spectacular displays of vapor and lava. The Observatory is the only lodge situated within the Arenal Volcano National Park, which encompasses thousands of acres of pristine rainforest and teems with tropical birds and wildlife.

Monteverde was founded by Quakers from the United States. It was chosen for its cool climate which would facilitate dairy farming. In 2007, Costa Ricans voted Monteverde one of Costa Rica's Seven Wonders, along with Isla del Coco, Tortuguero, Arenal Volcano, Cerro Chirripó, Rio Celeste and Poás Volcano.

Costa Rica Tour Details:

Tour Day 1:

Your Costa Rica tour begins with a morning pick up by your tour driver for scenic drive to Arenal Volcano. Overnight at the Arenal Observatory Lodge.

Tour Day 2:

In the morning, join other guests from the Lodge, for a guided hike inside the Arenal Volcano National Park for a close-up exploration of a lava flow.In the afternoon you will be picked up at the Lodge for transfer to the Arenal Lake. You will take a 30 minute boat ride across the lake where a van or 4x4 Jeep will be waiting to take you up to Monteverde Cloud Forest.

Tour Day 3:

Today you will enjoy a guided hike in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve viewing the misty forest with its dense vegetation and majestic trees. Overnight at Hotel Fonda Vela or similar. (B)

Tour Day 4: Either a morning or early  afternoon transfer back to San Jose. (B)
